It is so hard to imagine a world that was not so connected as we are today with the internet, cell phones, and video chat streams. How very hard for families to pick up and leave as they did from one country to another with full knowledge that they may never see or hear from loved ones again. A day when babies didn't always make it, illness won out most often, and homes were broken with sorrow and loss of all ages. And with all that, the niceties of cleanliness and all of the other technologies we are afforded today were not available. It makes me wonder in another 100 yrs what the generations will be comparing to today.
At the same time though, we know the priorities of home and family were so much better and so in many ways there was a lot of peace, contentment and pure happiness. I think about these things as I travel through the family tree and see the stories unfold. The nostalgia of it all sucks me in sometimes.
